Are you wondering looking at my question? Let me repeat the question. Are you trying to be that frog?
Yes, it is too early to ask this question. Let me share some back story.
What Did the Frog Do?
Somewhere on the planet earth, a boy was heating water in a kettle in the woods. And as they were in the woods, a frog was passing nearby fell into that water accidentally.
The temperature of the water is not so high that the frog can bear it. Also, it has a unique ability to increase its body temperature depending on the temperature of its surroundings.
The frog didn’t jump out of the water immediately after falling into it. It stayed in the water and increased the temperature of its body.
At one point, the water’s temperature is too much for the frog to bear. And it was not in a situation to increase its body temperature as it is exhausted completely. And it died.
If the frog had jumped out of the water the moment it fell, it would have survived. As it stayed there too long, even though it could survive in that situation, it died.
How is That Frog Related to the Context?
Many people, whenever they face any challenges, they don’t take action immediately. Finally, they succumb to the circumstances. — Because the unpaid bill always comes with due. Let me share one of my experiences with you.
I worked as a teacher in 2018 for 8.5 months. In the first 70 days, I worked in 3 schools (one at a time). And in the next six months of my stay in the following school, I taught for three months. — And stood against the management’s will to get my pay.
With every school and passing time, my instinct was telling me that teaching was not for me. I had to compromise if I were to continue on that path. When I got this realisation, I went out against the management and came out of that path.
Moreover, my story is not unique. Everyone faces similar situations. Situations may be different, but their effect is the same on anyone.
Knowingly or unknowingly, the frog and people in this situation become suffers from Parkinson’s law.
What is Parkinson’s Law
As per Parkinson’s law, “The amount of work expands to fill the time available for its completion.”
Have you ever noticed that you work well with deadlines? However, to complete the same work but without deadlines takes more time compared to with them.
And the more time you avoid taking action towards the right direction, the harder it becomes when you have to go towards that.
Many times, if people don’t like what’s going on in their life — they keep on telling themselves they have to take a U-turn. But if you ask them when exactly, they won’t be having an answer. —Not knowing when exactly is the same as not having a deadline.
And if you don’t have a deadline, it may sometimes take you forever to do what your heart yearns or whispers in your ear every morning.
How can someone knows when they have to take action? — By following the heart, by paying heed to the whispers and yearns of the heart.
I have seen/heard some broken marriages. I have witnessed many struggles in the life of some people. They are all due to that inaction or silence when they have to do something against the normal.
What is normal?
Going with the flow is normal.
Playing safe is normal.
Staying silent even in high time is normal.
Not breaking a promise when it is the time is normal.
And there is no reward for being normal. However, even it has a price.
And the price is:
- Your happiness. (not every time)
- Your energy. (Doing something you don’t love drains your energy)
- Your peace of mind.
- Your dreams. (Not every time)
Final Thoughts
Take action when your heart indicates or warns you. The more you delay, the harder it becomes to do the needful. And finally, don’t be that frog.
