How to Find Authentic Information in Your Research

Who doesn’t want to know authentic information? But are you getting it when you are researching? You don’t know because you don’t know what the right information looks like in general. But being a person who knows about one thing in and out, I understood how to find authentic information when researching.

I give all credits to one of my good friends, Jairam. The reason is, he became an inspiration for me to write on this stuff.

Let’s get started.

Is All Information You Find Online is Genuine?

You know about this well. Yes, you won’t get authentic information every time. Also, the problem is, whenever you get some information, you can’t understand if it is the right information. Because you don’t know what you are looking for actually.

Also, you know that there will be fake information as well. However, if the information you get is in inclination with what you are looking for, you believe it.

So, you will go with the information you perceive to be true. Also, people are making use of it for their good. It may be driving more traffic to their website or getting ad-sense income. Your negative mind will think, why does that worry Abhinay. I will come to that as well.

Why Does That Worry Me?

Being a person out of the system to follow my passion, I want to give the same to you. But you are driven by their fears. So, whenever you get some new information or an opportunity, you search on the downside.

You know what? Google is also tricky. It provides what you ask. What happens then? Your lizard brain comes into the picture to tell, “see, I already told you about it.” And if your mental muscle is weak, you will give in to what your mind says and accept the fake info. It may happen in another way as well, like both sides of the coin.

How to Find the Authentic Information While Researching?

I won’t brag about myself that I did a lot of research to find a way to get authentic information while researching. But, my friend Jairam shared a few tips to find the authenticity of the information you get.

  1. Check if you are getting information from an authoritative source. — Those sources are authoritative for a reason. So, they won’t mess with fake info as they think long term.
  2. Check how experienced the people, behind the source, in that area of your research. Or if they have expertise in multiple domains. — A person either has to be successful in that particular domain or have expertise in multiple domains to give the right info.
  3. Research papers, Journals depending on the context.

PS: Wikipedia is not an authentic source if you don’t provide proper citations. Again you need to follow the tips I shared above to find the authenticity of those references.

Final Thoughts

There is a lot of noise around. So getting a piece of authentic information also became an art. But the good news is anything is learnable. So, follow the information shared above to achieve this objective. Also, refer to Jairam’s article on doing proper research to expand your learning in this context.

I hope you found some value in this post. Share what is connecting with you the most by commenting below. I read every comment and reply.
