Who doesn’t want to be consistent in whatever they do?
Don’t you want to be consistent?
If you want to stay consistent, why do you want to?
Did you say that people consider you a serious person?
Yes, it is one of the reasons. Also, you become very good at whatever you do.
What is the outcome if it happens?
- You will create authority in your field.
- Your value increases, so you can charge more.
- You can maximise your results in a short time. — More productivity.
- You will get more followers.
- You can also help others to stay consistent and meet their objectives.
- You can prove everyone wrong who believes it is impossible.
People say how you do one thing is how you do everything. And you must be thinking as I remained consistent in writing, I am very disciplined and build habits well. If you are thinking that way, you should get into the next section.
My Failed Attempts
I want to share one incident with you. I applied for SSC CGL in 2018. I was so determined to crack the exam, and I strategised the exam preparation plan. I prepared a perfect schedule and everything.
Do you want to know what happened next? The perfect plan became a perfect disaster. I screwed it the moment I applied for the exam.
How many times have you done the same? I don’t mean precisely from the next day. But about the failed plannings.
Shall I share some of my failed disciplines? Here we go:
- In 2020, I decided to sleep at 10 pm and wake up at 4 am. I was able to stick to the routine for ten days. But once, it was disturbed, and I am struggling even now to make it a habit.
- I have been trying to quit watching movies since 2017. But I wasn’t even able to stay away from them for at least 21 days.
- I have failed to stay consistent in writing twice in 2020. You can go to my FB wall. Once, I followed Gopal Kishan’s framework to write. Later I came up with a content plan and followed the discipline for some days.
- In 2021, I failed to stay consistent in writing. I started in May and once took a break, and it almost took me more than a month to get back on track. Here I am writing on the 75th day consistently.
I shared these failures. Because some failed attempt takes most of you down, you start feeling low and accept it is hard to stay consistent in whatever you do. I have even more failed attempts, but I am not sharing all of them.
Let us now understand why people fail to be consistent.
Challenges in Staying Consistent
Many times you plan any routine on an impulse. Over time, life throws different situations at you. (We can’t do anything about it, as life works that way). And you get deviated and from the routine, and it takes a lot of effort to get back on track.
Moreover, even if you think you are not consistent, you are consistent. Yes, I am damn serious. You are consistent in the following:
- Consistent in letting your emotions control you.
- Consistent in letting uncertainties take a toll on you.
- Consistent in not staying consistent.
I will stop the list here. And throw light on the reasons why you, sometimes, can’t stay consistent.
- You have decided on an impulse, but you don’t have a clear purpose. (WHY)
- You are not true to yourself and others.
- Lack of prioritising.
- Being in a comfortable zone.
- Not having a mechanism to keep you on track.
Let me share what helped me stay consistent and how you can also stay consistent.
How to Build Habits and Stay Consistent
- Every time you plan to build a habit, learn from your previous mistakes. I had three failed attempts of writing habit, I analysed and understood the reasons. I state them below as they might help you.
- Not having a clear purpose.
- Not putting myself in an unavoidable situation. — So, I declared that I am on 100 days writing challenge.
- Not being true to others. I sometimes backdated the posts that I published after midnight.
- Every time you set up a habit, have a realistic goal.
- Having an accountability partner helps. You are my accountability partner as I declared that I am on a writing challenge. So, missing to write puts me in uncomfortable situations.
The Benefits I experience Due to 100 Days Writing Challenge
I am glad that I declared 100 days writing challenge. Here are few benefits I experienced.
- On the 14th day of the challenge, I was not at all in the mood to write. I didn’t know what to write, and I was not getting any words to write. However, if I don’t write, people won’t value anything that I say. So, I wrote on that day.
- In 2021, when I restarted writing, travels became the reason for not writing on some days. However, now, I published my works early on the days of travel. It is due to the writing challenge.
In simple words, I remained to keep my word up. I write every day. So I suggest you be brutally honest with yourself as well as your followers and declare your goals so that you will follow them at any cost.
As I completed 75% of the challenge successfully, I am declaring that I will be waking up at 6:00 am regularly from tomorrow.
