Are you wondering how you can meditate with your eyes open?
Are you struggling to meditate?
Or aren’t you able to sit in one place with eyes closed and focus on one thing, your breath?
Then this post is for you as you are going to learn how to meditate with your eyes open.
First of all, it is better to recollect what meditation is.
What is Meditation?
You might have heard,
- It is a practice to introspect yourself, attain moksha/salvation.
- You can also get clarity over thoughts on meditating.
- You can gain control over your emotions by meditating.
The benefits are many, and I mentioned a few. But what do you think is meditation exactly?
Many cultures practise meditation all over the world to create a sense of calmness and inner harmony.
In simple terms, it is training your mind to focus on one thing at a time consciously. It involves getting over your thoughts that disturb you constantly by not giving energy to them.
Not everyone can understand a single style of teaching or practice. So, meditation evolved into different types.
Types of Meditation
- Mindfulness Meditation — You attention to your thoughts and your emotions as a third person. It helps in living in the moment.
- Spiritual Meditation — You try to build a connection with God with your faith. Logic is simple you focus on something in the higher-level consciousness, which helps you attain it with practice.
- Focused Meditation — You concentrate using any of the five senses. It can be like observing the rotating fan, feeling the air on your body, paying attention to music or a particular sound.
- Mantra Meditation — You focus on chanting instead of focusing on the breath that is a common practice. It is effective if you are not able to stay calm and focus on your breath.
- Movement Meditation — You can do any activity but will use the breath to guide your movement. The focus of any meditation practise is to bring to the present. Here, you use motions to get your mind to the present. Similar to focused meditation that you shift your attention to the outcome of your movement. It, in turn, keeps your mind from wandering.
By looking at different types, you might have already understood what I intend to say in this post. However, I would like to share how I accidentally end up meditating when I struggled to follow the common practice of calming the mind by sitting in a silent place.
How You Can Meditate With Your Eyes Open
Pay close attention to the different types of meditation. You can understand that the objective of it is to bring you into a flow. If you are energy-rich, you can’t sit calmly in one place and focus on your breath. I faced the same situation.
So, whatever you do, if you are maintaining the flow, it is called meditation.
People say meditation improves clarity. I experienced the same by following this practice. Also, I got clarity over thoughts.
Let’s uncover the uncovered. It is by doing any activity that you love where you consciously focus your mind.
I will share my experience. I love writing, but I haven’t been regular in writing. But when I started writing regularly from May 10 with this post, I got the clarity of thoughts with time. The reason is I am repeating what I already know. Also, when I write, I am in a flow, putting my mind consciously on it.
I won’t tell everyone to start writing. If drawing is your passion, you can follow that. Is singing your passion? Then it is meditation for you. If you love your job, working is a meditation for you.
To keep it very simple, doing what you love is meditation. — Because you put your heart and soul while pursuing your passions. When you do what you love, you disconnect yourself from the world and stay in a flow that is nothing but living in the moment. And at the core, the objective of meditating is to live in the moment.

Final Thoughts
Meditation is best for everyone, but it loses its essence if you force yourself to meditate. So if you are energy-rich and can’t sit calmly to meditate, you can start with doing an activity you love mindfully focusing on your breath as well in the beginning. Then you can start moving towards the mindfulness meditation practice.
