Which is Better? Playing Safe or Going All Out?

Are you feeling overwhelmed by looking at the different suggestions? If I ask you to choose between playing safe or going all out, what would you choose? Or would you say somewhere between calculated risk?

Every time the rules depend on different factors like the area of focus, role. Let’s dive deep into it to find which one would be the best choice for you. (again, based on circumstances.)

Who Are You? What You Aspire?

I have always been an uncalculated risk-taker. It rewarded me well sometimes and put me into trouble a lot of times. Every time because of the wrong choice in the wrong place.

It is because of not asking who I am and what I want in life. Let’s stop further ado. You should check if you are an employee or an entrepreneur.

You might think why that does matter. — Because, being an employee, you won’t have an option to take your own decisions most of the time.

Won’t you believe me? Then watch Captain America – Civil War movie.

However, being an entrepreneur, you should be a risk-taker.

Let me share some situations. In 2018, my mom and others persuaded me to take up a job. I have opted for a safer option at that time. I stopped being a freelancer full time and entered into the teaching field.

After entering the teaching field, I didn’t compromise and changed from two schools, and I got fired from one school in 70 days.

Only if I had chosen not to give up being of free will — I wouldn’t have stopped being a freelancer full time. And if I had opted to adjust, I wouldn’t have changed more schools in 70 days.

Why Does That Matter?

The objectives of the games are different. Jobs are when you prioritise survival. And what will you do when your focus is on surviving? You will look for moving towards what keeps you safe. So, the objective here should be playing safe.

However, when you want to choose the second option, being an entrepreneur. It is a lonely option. In the beginning, entrepreneurship is a lonely path. And how can you expect yourself to be safe when you take a loner path?

Let me share a real-life example that I faced. Commitment is another term to define the risk you take. I always collaborate with people who want to grow in life and work towards helping them achieve their goals. However, one person wanted to enjoy the fruits of collaboration without taking the initial commitment.

As a result, he wasn’t so determined enough to continue the journey. So the time I spent on him got wasted. That is the reason serious people always allow only committed people to associate with them.

One simple question to ask yourself, what am I willing to give up to get what I want? Even in the job, you give time for the salary they pay. Moreover, in entrepreneurship, the time you put in doesn’t matter. Only results do. Then how can you expect to grow if you are not willing to give up something for what you want?

Crux

You can always look for a thin line between playing safe and going all out. It is nothing but taking a calculated risk. What do you say?
