Most of the persons are getting the concept of mentoring and mentor the wrong way.
The majority feel that any successful person can be a mentor and follow in his footsteps. Sometimes, you may end up investing in the wrong person to feel overwhelmed due to lack of proper direction and information overload. You feel directionless with multiple paths because things won’t go as you assumed.
Are you also one of them? In that case, this post is for you. Let’s get started.
Who is a Mentor?
The one who already travelled in the path you are on and way ahead in the journey and experiencing substantial success.
At one or another time, everyone has shiny object syndrome, even you and me.
Because of that, when you see a successful person, sometimes you jump into paying that person to get mentorship.
Sometimes, you find the right one, but most of the time, even though you end up at the best person, he won’t be the right mentor for you.
Do you want me to give you an example?
Let me ask you a question.
Who is God, and what is his purpose?
If you are a theist, you may say it is to take care of us, protect us, and put us on the right path.
Okay, if it is the case, why are there many Gods and many religions?
The reason is one way of teaching is not enough to put everyone on the right path.
That is the reason different Gods and different religions emerged, whereas every religion teaches the same at the core, but the methods vary.
How to Find the Right mentor?
You have to find what you want out of life and look for people who already have it. Dig deeper to understand their journey. Learn what they have overcome and how they evolved. It is then you get if you can follow someone.
For example, if you are looking towards improving your business and looking for someone who can probably help you in your endeavour, you have two options. You either have to find someone who excelled in your business line or someone who helped people in your line to grow their business.
Some of you feel lost because you are stuck with some teaching of the mentor you are following. It happens when you are not following a mentor completely. You might have missed implementing some of your mentor’s teaching.
I will share my example. I have enrolled on an internship program from Digital Deepak. There is one exercise where we need to find our niche. I had decided on one niche in the beginning. Deepak also suggested that we have to write at least 500 words daily to improve our writing skills.
I started writing regularly. In this process, my niche also evolved, and finally, I have chosen to help individuals bring their passion to life. Even, I had confusion at first, but I got started with something which I felt relevant at that time. Finally, I found which is more resonating with me. But I saw some people who are still stuck mentioning they are not able to find their niche.
Here I found one important thing. You should be ready first to find the right mentor. Because, in Mahabharat, Arjuna got Krishna as a mentor because he is ready. But the majority doesn’t want to be like Arjuna but want a mentor like Krishna.
Only when you follow a mentor 100% — you can expect results. It is better to do nothing rather than doing something partially.
Final Thoughts
- A mentor is someone who is ahead in your journey and success.
- To find the right mentor, you should be clear with your goals. It will help you to find someone who has done well in that field.
- You have to be a good disciple to find the right mentor or benefit from the right mentor.
- Even if you are not clear with what you want, finding a mentor and following him diligently will help you reach your destination.
