I read a statement: Abilities win in the short-term, but consistency wins in the long run.
You can understand the importance of staying consistent from this statement.
But why do you think only a few are consistent and achieve success in the long run?
I am a great beginner but finish very few.
What I am Doing to Stay Consistent
If you are following me, you must be aware that I am on a 100-day writing challenge. You also must be aware that there was a time when I had been writing consistently.
But why do you think I mentioned it as a challenge when I restarted the second time? — I will cover that in the latter part.
Do you know I missed publishing on few days the first time I have committed myself to write regularly?
If you know, great to know. But if you don’t let me tell you I missed writing articles for few days in the middle.
That is the reason I challenged myself to write every day for 100 days. After challenging myself, I haven’t kept the promise to myself but shared it with everyone through my social media handles. — It gives me enough reasons to stay consistent as people won’t feel I am accountable if I miss.
But there is one more problem I am working on, and I am disclosing as I want you to understand that not everyone is perfect. And everyone has flaws, but very few stay on course. — I decided to publish at 10:00 pm every day, but due to the course of life and not prioritising the tasks better, now, at 10:17 pm, I am still writing this post.
There are days and times when I used to backdate or change the published time to show that I kept up with my plans. But this is the third day when I missed publishing at 10:00 pm. But again, I am making a promise to myself to stay committed to publishing at 10:00 pm from tomorrow.
The Times When I Failed to Maintain Consistency
Now is the fourth time I started writing consistently. The very first two times, I wasn’t able to write even for 21 days. — The reason was not strong at that time.
I used to start in a fluke when I get motivated by something. So, I failed to stay consistent before.
But, the third time, it is out of inspiration. So, I got a reason to stay committed to my goal of writing. But I was doing something wrong. Even if I publish it after midnight, I backdate to make it fall the day before. I rectified it in the fourth attempt, so I stopped backdating. It gives me a push to stay committed even in the latter days.
Also, once I stop writing after 100 days, I will be polishing the existing content and optimise it better before starting my next challenge.
Crux
If you want to be consistent, announce your goals to the world.
Be authentic. If you fake once, you will fake anytime.
Be accountable. — Announcing will also help you to stay accountable.
Fix a time to do your tasks. It acts as a deadline. So, you will be disciplined and discipline helps in reaching goals from plans.
It’s okay if you can’t keep up to your promise 100%. Even 70% or 60% is better than nothing at all.
As there are numerous posts on consistency, I tried to add the points which I experienced. Did you like my approach? Do let me know by commenting below. It would mean the world to me!
